A Catalina Weekend

Saturday we left Long Beach, headed to Catalina Island. Brett had never been and I have not been since 8th grade (Jamie is that right? was it 8th grade grad that we went???). Gwenie really loved the boat ride over, I think she thinks everything is a ride from Disneyland.

ready to go

We first checked into the hotel and then went down to the little town....and little it is. They only have a hotel shuttle that would make pick ups every 30 minutes or you had to walk! So we just walked around the first day and ate.

oceanfront

Gwenie loved everything about the beach. To bad it was not warmer so we could have laid out and let her swim.

just chilling

I loved all of the colors that the buildings and the boats had.

waterfront

I love this picture. It shows you how the little shops were on the waterfront and how much Gwenie loves sitting on shoulders!!!

taking a stroll

She had got the pouty face down to a T. She was being pouty becasue she wanted to play in the water fountain.

The second day we rented a golf cart to drive around the town and explore. Gwenie absolutely loved it! This girl loves to say "whee".

It was super cold since it was windy, so we went back to the hotel and pulled a blanket off of the bed to wrap around Gwenie. She was asking for one!

loved the golf cart

On our exploring we came across this hill that would make for a perfect ski hill. If only there was snow.

skiing anyone??

We got really high in the mountains and had awesome views.

I got this picture of Brett and I and I love it.I just wish that I didn't have braces!
It is so hard to get Brett to take pictures of the 2 of us so I treasure one when I get one and it is good. I know we are squinty eyes but it was windy and bright.

The town had all of these cute little colored houses and I thought it was really cool to look at as we were driving in the golf cart.

Gwenie and I in our PJ's relaxing in the hotel, hence the crappy lighting. We did alot of relaxing, playing cards (Gwenie is a great helper), watching Shrek all together tucked into bed! Loved it!!!

Pj's in the hotel

Here are all the pictures that I got on my iphone. It was nice to have to carry my camera all the time since we walked a ton, had Gwenie to carry and my diaper bag. If you notice the very first picture Gwenie is eating toast with ketchup on it, gross huh? she asked for it to be on there and she loved it. She loves her Ketchup, she will even eat it all alone.

Catalina iphone adventures

We had a good time but we do not feel the need to really ever go back. We didn't like the lack of transportation on the island. They limit the amount of cars that are allowed on the island so you are dependent on the hotel shuttle or you can rent a golf cart for up to 3 hours, but that is it!

Great pictures. Too bad it was so cold, it is really nice in the summer. But, it really looked green and I have never seen it Green, just brown. Yes, lots of walking, and walking, etc... Gwenie has a great time where ever she goes. Did you get into the Catalina Casino ballroom, it is beautiful in there. We went over there twice for Young Adult leadership meetings in the 70's and had a ball and got to use the Casino ballroom each time. It looks like you beat the crowds thought.

Dad, no we didn't go into the Casino cuz we didn't think of it. Haha. Would they have let Gwenie in there though??

I think you can just check Gwenie at the door of the casino like a coat! Ok, probably not. Looks cold but like lots and lots of fun...until the ketchup on toast picture. I still feel sick from that one! Looks like a relaxing getaway!

i am so jealous! troy and i went there this time last year right after having Lucy. ( we left lucy at home though) and we did the same exact things as you and looks like we ate at the same places...and well walked the same routes and all that...not too much to do. although...we never found a beach that had real sand..the one we were at was HORRIBLE with rocks instead of sand!! i want to go there maybe every couple of years...two days is definitely enough though!

Michael was originally thinking of honeymooning there, but then decided it was probably more fun as a scout than it would be for a honeymoon. I've actually never been to Catalina. I love that black and white picture of Gweniveve. I think candid pictures like that are so precious. I'm glad you guys were able to get away and had a good, relaxing weekend! Next time we come to Cali I promise we will see you guys. We just really needed some "alone" family time. I hope you understand. We love ya and miss you guys!

I love all of your pictures....it's fun keeping up with your cute family. Even though this wasn't a "trip of a lifetime", I hope you were able to relax and enjoy yourselves. Time spent together is the best, no matter where.

You know, I have NEVER been to Catalina island either. I used to scuba dive off the outskirts but never actually made it on the island. I would like to experience it one time.

I loved all your pictures. I really liked the one of you and Brett too. I treasure the ones of Kelly and Me too because he doesn't like to ask people to take our pictures. Your braces don't look bad. Infact, when you look back you'll know exactly when that picture was taken because your braces will help give you a time frame :) You look beautiful!

I haven't ever been to Catalina Island. Apparently my 8th grade trip never happened. I love all of the photos.

What a fun vacation for your little fam!
We went with my side of the family about 6 years ago. We stayed in the next cove over from the main part of town. I love that everyone drives the golf carts around!

I love all the pictures! I've never been to Catalina, either. Joe and I always meant to go when we lived there, but never did. I love weekend get-a-ways! I need one right now!
